On June 12, 2005 the Tri-State chapter of the National Railway Historical Society sponsored a fan trip over the currently freight only Dover and Rockaway rail road. The road was originally built in the late 1800's to carry iron ore from Hibernia, New Jersey into Dover, New Jersey. This small railroad became part of the Jersey Central's High Bridge Branch
The trip ran east from North Sussex Street in Dover paralleling the NJT (nee Erie Lackawanna, nee Lackawanna) then turning north. The train ducked under Route 46 then entered Rockaway. The trip continued north to the end of the current line in Hibernia where a small factory still receives covered hoppers.
